We had some tough football played this weekend with both the First and Reserve teams being on the wrong side of some dubious refereeing decisions – you can’t win them all I guess!
The First team played host to F.C Langford who dominated the first 15 minutes of the game and then seemed to run out of steam allowing the Fins to run rings around them, keeping their goalkeeper and defence on their toes. The deadlock was finally broken and the Fins went 1 up. This seemed to wake Langford up and the game evened out at 2-2 until 20 minutes before the end when the Mighty Fins went 3-2 up. The joy was short-lived though as the referee awarded a penalty to Langford after their striker decided to run into a Finmere player and fall over. The penalty was scored despite a valiant effort by Dan Whitbread leaving the game drawn at 3 all and robbing Finmere First team of a well deserved win.
Final Score: Finmere 3 – F.C Langford 3
Scorers: Ryan Englefield and Max Talbot (2)
The Reserves didn’t fair any better, both in terms of the way the run of play went and the refereeing decisions. Whilst the Fins will be the first to admit they weren’t really switched on in the first half and already 5 – 0 down late into the second half the referee sent goalkeeper Joe Smallman off for a 50-50 challenge for the ball robbing them of any chance of a come back.
Final Score: Bicester Utd. 6 – Finmere Reserves 0Results
